OCPR to Host Technical Briefings to Discuss Project Prioritization Tool April 27-28
BATON ROUGE -- The Louisiana Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration (OCPR) will conduct three technical briefings April 27-28 to discuss the Prioritization Tool for Ecosystem Restoration Hurricane Protection Projects: Proof of Concept.
The meetings will be held on the following dates and at the following locations:
• Tuesday, April 27, 2010: 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Lindy Boggs International Conference Center, University of New Orleans.
• Wednesday, April 28, 2010: 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Woods Auditorium, School of Coast & Environment, Louisiana State University.
• Wednesday, April 28, 2010: 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m., Hamilton Hall, University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Information will be presented by David Groves from the RAND Gulf States Policy Institute and Dr. Denise Reed from the University of New Orleans. The briefings will be highly technical in nature and are being held to provide additional information to researchers and technical staff from local, state and federal agencies and non-governmental organizations. The meetings are open to the public.
As part of the development of the Fiscal Year 2011 Annual Plan, which can be viewed by clicking here, the OCPR planning consulting team developed a new planning framework to guide the selection and implementation of ecosystem restoration and hurricane protection projects in support of Louisiana's 2012 Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast.
A key component of this new framework is a project Prioritization Tool. These technical briefings describe the Prioritization Tool and a Proof-of-Concept analysis which has been conducted for the Fiscal Year 2011 Annual Plan to demonstrate the utility of the tool. The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority's mandate is to develop, implement and enforce a comprehensive coastal protection and restoration master plan. For the first time in Louisiana's history, this single state authority will integrate coastal restoration and hurricane protection by marshalling the expertise and resources of the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Transportation and Development, and other state agencies, to speak with one clear voice for the future of Louisiana's coast. Working with federal, state and local political subdivisions, including levee districts, the CPRA will work to establish a safe and sustainable coast that will protect our communities, the nation's critical energy infrastructure, and our bountiful natural resources for generations to come. The CPRA of Louisiana was established by Act 8 of the 1st Extraordinary Session of 2005.
